(and yes I don’t disagree with what Mike writes here)

“there’s a lot more things in orbit than […] Artemis I”
oops, someone might want to resync those countdowns

you know, it occurs to me that I have no idea what the rocket’s (considerable!) weight currently rests on

maybe I’ll look that up later

looking at this shot… it can’t be suspended from the tower, surely? it has to be standing on the ground (but not such that it blocks the rocket engine nozzles lol)
@LucasWerkmeister Both the space shuttle and the SLS sit directly on the solid rocket booster nozzles. A lot of rockets are supported entirely by the launch tower connected to structural points on the side though, and cannot rest on the nozzles
@nytpu wow, thanks. so does the main engine have to lift the rocket enough so the solid boosters can start firing? or are those resting on some sort of grille they can fire through?
@LucasWerkmeister They have to fire through something, if anything just to redirect the exhaust properly. This Wikimedia Commons picture of Artemis I shows it well. And this screenshot of the launch livestream actually shows it well, there's supports and the nozzles themselves are in cutouts
@nytpu I see, thank you!
