i just discovered that when you share Amazon Prime benefits with another account, it will show you recommendations (including app notifications) based on the other person's purchases as if they were made by you.

I also think Amazon is selling that interest data, because my partner ordered diapers for Louise kitty and now I'm seeing ads for toddler stuff, and not just from Amazon itself.
