One thing that was very different about the 90's family sitcoms, is that, you had your republican shows, and you had your Democrat shows. We didn't really call them that, but that's what they were. Blossom was a Democrat show. Home Improvement was a Republican show. Family Matters was a Democrat show. Step by Step was a Republican show. Roseanne was a Democrat show. Boy Meets World was a Republican show.

They all had the same values. Love your family. Accept differences. Work hard. (1)

And we all watched them all, and related to them all.

There's this notion that we should have known that lurking underneath our republican friends was a MAGA white Christian nationalist. But I think people underestimate how much we were raised, together with them--raised by the same TV shows.

They weren't hateful. I don't think there was anything lurking underneath. I think most people reflect whatever culture is around them, at any given time.

We talk about now like (2)

everything was leading to this point--and for some things that's true. The environment, the wealth inequality--we stacked that brick by brick to fuck the people.

But the rest was absolutely, 100 percent engineered by the wealthiest people in the world. It really is just a handful of people making us dance like puppets with the overwhelming force of nonstop media that they shape around you.

Give people a break. And give them a better spectacle than what the oligarchs are peddling.
