Stop and read this piece. I'm also the product of a closed #adoption. And I *do* regard my legally valid birth certificate--which lists people who had nothing at all to do with my birth--as a fake. Why *shouldn't* I worry that some current or future fascist regime will agree with me?

Yeah I am not necessarily hostile to having a second birth certificate for my adoption but the idea I can’t access the original records is crazy. I’m a fairly big believer that we have to mandate access to records once kids reach like 15 or 16. And closed adoptions should be illegal.

Yes, I glean from what (little) I've read of your writing that you don't oppose the structure fundamentally, but rather the restrictions attached to it. I am an abolitionist and hope for a day when plenary #adoption is replaced by long-term guardianship that leaves a child's vital records unaltered.
