@crispius Canadian political actors have relied and manipulated misinformation and falsehoods for decades. AI is sure to be adopted by many and easily accepted by those already aligned with multiple perspectives…

I have seen CBC try to take a role in challenging misinformation but it will likely be overwhelmed and not have the resources to do this well when politcal actors see AI misinfo as an essential tool.

Canadian’s need to establish a response beyond an oops and a shrug or we’ll be overwhelmed with it.

@crispius A big part of it is cultivating communities where easily dismissible misinformation is readily accepted as part of the community loyalty. It allows even more extreme misinformation, with the advantage that challenges to the accepted misinformation build the community.

The time and effort to create and curate the misinformation and inaccuracies is well rewarded.

It’s a huge exercise in manipulating anger suspicion prejudice and hatred, the old reliable uglies that can be counted on and still held dearly by so many. It offers so much success to those willing to use it.

Many political sphere run on anger ignorance and prejudice exclusively with great success.
