Why do people call Alexander "The Great" while he & his army had done countless atrocities & oppressions on children, women, men, & old people?

He was a tyrant who had an unquenchable thirst  for power & empire expansion. He never preached humanity, tolerance, love, ♥️ & peace 🫒.

@danish_akhtar7 His name “The Great” came from his military prowess, and the fact he often led his men into battle himself. And probably because he had the political wherewithal to hold together the largest empire the world had seen thus far. He got the nickname within a couple lifetimes of his death.

There wasn’t really a concept of family names in those days/societies, so you needed a way to keep people apart. You’re entirely free to call him Alexander III of Makedonia :).

@teotwaki

People say that his expansion opened a major trade route in the world. His military techniques, war management, & logistics are still studied.

But these were unintended consequences & side effects of his war efforts. Even if he were a military genius, his legacy came at the cost of innocent lives.

@danish_akhtar7 Are there any war efforts that are unequivocally good without any side effects?
