This might be hard to believe but Summer is a very accomplished gardening helper.
We received some surprise dahlia tubers. Probably because I mentioned that my favorite dahlia named Polka didn't survive the winter layover.
I was going to move on but a couple of days ago a box arrived with not only two Polka tubers but four other fancy schmancy varieties.
Well this morning Summer says we'd better get them in the dirt before the rain.
So I loaded up a wagon of soil and put the box of tubers where Summer could reach.
We got to work.
She dumped out the box and brought the tubers one at a time. I ended up short two pots and asked her to find some so she did. Twice.
We got er done and Summer got a good girl treat.
Glad she's on our team.

How did Summer come to join your family?

@TheEddieShow
My husband saw her on Craig's list right after he got home from a month in the hospital. She was the runt of a litter of eight and the only one that hadn't sold. She had food related anxiety and wouldn't eat consistently.
He really wanted to give her a home so I called the breeders. Her parents were well regarded hunting dogs. The owners didn't know what they were going to do because she was very small, wouldn't eat and no one wanted to train her as a hunting dog.
I made a generous offer to buy her and drove hundreds of miles to bring her home.
She and my husband immediately bonded. It has been three and a half years now. She is our first dog.
She isn't small anymore and would probably have excelled as a hunting retriever. She is amazingly smart, athletic and has a soft mouth.
We got very lucky that no one else wanted her.
@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow So glad you all found her (and she found you)!

@NorcalGma2

Beautiful story. Thank you for taking the time. LOOKA that puppy! 🥰

@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow
It's so beautiful that you found her. And a blessing that you comfort each other. She's amazing & so smart. 🩷
@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow what a beautiful pup! She’s adorable. Sounds like she got super-lucky with her adoptive family.
@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow What a lovely origin story. Thank you for sharing. She fits right in your pack. You are so fortunate given she was your first dog!
@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow What a wonderful story. It was Summer’s destiny to end up with you and your husband.
@TheEddieShow @NorcalGma2 awwww, I have a similar story about Forest. Bc I already had three cats I felt like I couldn’t keep her when I found her in the woods. So I took her to the shelter the next day. I cried that whole day and planned to get her back. Three days later she was home but wouldn’t eat for several days. The vet said something abt failure to thrive. But I knew she was traumatized and she just needed extra love. And I loved her extra and she started to eat.
@DrSuzanne @TheEddieShow @NorcalGma2 I found my kitty T’Chat as a newborn. Squeezed down between bags of mulch at Lowes. I just happened to look down the crack. I bottle fed her and she is now 17 years old. And still has zoomies. I think these little creatures know how to call us to them. Eddie - your kitty is a magic kitty too, yes?
@TheEddieShow @NorcalGma2 @firefly I can’t believe she is 17. She does not look it. Just goes to show you though that the ones who need extra love will find the right person to provide it. 💗
@DrSuzanne @TheEddieShow
We still get Summer started on her meal by hand feeding her. I put my hand on her back while she eats too. She won't eat out of a metal bowl no matter what. She is such a sweet loving being it is the least I can do for her.
@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow awww. Just curious if you think she still needs it, or is it merely a calming ritual at this point?
@DrSuzanne @TheEddieShow
I don't know. She still has an occasional no eating day. She won't eat if my husband is away at the hospital either.
@NorcalGma2 @TheEddieShow better to be safe for sure with the sensitive souls.
