Beyond driver automation, and self-driving vehicles, there was a big concept that we don't hear enough about.
Public transport. Personal vehicles were envisioned to only be for the last mile, from station to home. Then they would drive themselves to somewhere else where they'd be needed, rather than use prime real estate being uselessly parked there. Some would also be the public transport.
