PeerTube
@FediVideo sure wish I could open that in any way whatsoever on my Peertube account, but no. believe me, I tried.

@deutrino

What is it you're trying to do?

You don't need a PeerTube account to watch and interact with PeerTube videos.

Copy-paste a PeerTube video or account's address into the search box in Mastodon, this will make it appear in Mastodon and you can follow, reply, favourite etc. Replies in Mastodon appear as comments in PeerTube, favourites in Mastodon appear as thumbs up, follows are subscriptions.

You only really need a PeerTube account if you want to upload videos or create playlists.

@FediVideo was trying to open the playlist and/or channel in my Peertube account so I could potentially subscribe / federate it to my account's instance if it hadn't been. I tried multiple ways and none worked even to the point of acknowledging that the channel or playlist exist.

it's not like the instance (spectra.video) is poorly connected. it's just frustrating to see Peertube still so difficult after so many years and with Youtube in a steep slide into terminal enshittification mode.

@deutrino

Okay, thanks for the info.

Could I ask what specifically you did? Were you copy-pasting stuff or clicking on stuff or whatever? Were you using the web or the app? Which channel were you trying to open?

I'm asking so I can try to feed this back to the developers and make it easier 🙂 They've been pretty responsive if there have been problems, there is a lot of stuff they have fixed based on feedback. It will be easier for them to fix it if I can give specific details of the problem.
