@usul thanks! I haven't thought about Servo for years (not since the Quantum change).

In practical terms, what might be the short- and medium-term results of the merge?

@grahamperrin the ability to run early releases and the ability to run / port browsers running servo. There are 2 I believe, who's name escape me.
Long run it makes the web a platform more open where you'll have more choice than gecko/blink/webkit. The more os it runs on the more people having a choice
