#VintageStory tonight: I found iron! Now I have a whole to-do list of things to bootstrap myself to iron tools, including:

-casting a bronze anvil
-making fire bricks and a bloomery
-chopping a bunch of trees and making a ton of charcoal
-completely mining out a brown coal seam for misc fuel
-rearranging the forging room
-casting some extra bronze pickaxes, shovels, and hammers

I also found a meteoric iron deposit! Truly a productive night.

More #VintageStory thoughts: When I last played there wasn't a recipe to make fire clay, so you were gated in progress until you could find a deposit. I think the new fire clay recipe is really good design. You have to bother to pick up the flint that you find, you have to bake it, grind it, and combine it with other clay, so it's a bit of work but it means you're not stuck if you don't have fire clay nearby.

And since there's no large flint deposits it's not game-breaking easymode.

Had to stop playing last night because I had to go to bed. But I did smelt my first batch of iron, got 6 hot iron blooms out of it, and have the new bronze anvil cooling before I can start hammering. Had I been more efficient I would have waited to fire the iron until the anvil was ready so I could take the blooms directly to the anvil and knock the slag off.

Got home late last night so all I had time to do was mine a couple of stacks of hematite, and forge a new iron pickaxe and iron hammer.
