There is one thing you can be sure of, modern science fiction gives us plenty of choice to choose from when it comes to sub-genres. Of course, it all depends on who you speak to about what may, or may not, make it onto the list but, for arguments sake, here are a few of what makes it onto my list:

Absolutely: Women write SF, and they do write military SF.

Favourite sub-genres? These days I rather go by books I like. For instance, in recent times, I re-read a few of Diane Duane's Star Trek novels (Yes. Because they have a special sauce about them.), Miles Cameron's "Aritifact Space" series (many facettes), Jack McDevitt "A Talent for War" (philosophising). But also Elizabeth Bear's "White Space" series.

My stack is high. 😁

@kiwi2002 Funnily enough, I posted this while I'm actually on a fantasy reading streak. I discovered Robert Jackson Bennett and read first TAINTED CUP and it's follow up, A DROP OF CORRUPTION. Both excellent. And then, just finished FOUNDARYSIDE book one in another series by him. Equally as good.
