Open Printer

Finally, an open hardware printer you can actually understand, repair, and upgrade

Crowd Supply
@cos @atoponce Damn, I was hoping this post meant I had missed the opening of the project. It's been "coming soon" for a while now. I hope the creators are just working on making it real and haven't abandoned it.
@cos inkjet? ooph. pass.
@cos And in big 2026 no less

@cos Well it's nice, but the main part that will fail, the print head, kinda is under the control of a single company.
Considering that any decent commercial printer will last for decades, is fairly well repairable with basic tools like sand paper, there is less of an urgency in that area.

I mean unlike mobile phones, printers kinda are enshittification free. (unless you expect to buy a <200 colour printer)

@casandro I think the way to remedy this would be to have a physical & electric interface module for different print head brands which could be swapped while keeping rest of the printer as is.
@cos Yes, but much of the "shittyness" of an inkjet printer ist condensed in the ink-cartridge. No matter what you put around it, you'll still have a printer that is expensive to run and maintain, gives bad results and is slow. It's probably impossible to create a good inkjet printer... (except for specialist devices for industrial applications like labeling eggs or cables)

@cos Now *this* is some good news I've been waiting for!
