@N33R @GeoffWozniak It is an interesting, very specific set of rose-coloured glasses that some — very much not all — Americans have, where their country is the best in the world, I imagine entirely because it’s repeated so often and they haven’t objectively looked around at how things are going there vs elsewhere.
And it’s not an education thing, I don’t think, as much as willful ignorance. Earlier in the threats about invading Canada, when Canadians were pushing back on the idea hard, an American politician (whose name I wish I could remember) said that, ‘Everyone on the planet wants to be American, so Canada should feel honoured to be invited to be a part of it.’
No, sir. The VAST majority of Earth’s population doesn’t want to be American, and if you believe otherwise, you’re only kidding yourself and making yourself look foolish in front of the rest of us who know better.
Europeans "resisting" an *actual* Russian invasion..
Europeans facing hostile foreign invaders who would enslave them and destroy their identity and way of life.. liquidating one half of the population for the benefit of the other half.
Euros, gazing out the window of the 200 kph train, drinking their wine, musing upon EU security and stability while being NATO financial deadbeats for the last 45 years.
Typical Euro diplomatic hypocrisy and cynicism. Diplomats & politicians getting high on their own supply instead of studying history. Just so long as the wine is fine and the trains run on time. Short sighted deals with inquitous regimes- no problem! Just don't send us any of your refugees!
@N33R while French TGVs are the best in the trains in the world, the rest of the French system is a joke, and France has similar car ownership and usage to the US.
Many European governments are pro car and anti-public transport and anti-cycling. Things aren't quite as bad here as in the US, but big oil has a strong influence over policy in too many places.
While Paris has fought a long and ongoing battle against the oil and motor industry, most other French towns haven't even started...
