@anne_twain Well, his prayer, as quoted in the above piece, is from Psalm 18:37–41, mostly, with a side order of Isaiah 9:4 ("rod of the oppressor", referring to Gideon's victory over the Midianites in Judges 6–7). The charming bit about "breaking the teeth of the ungodly" is from Psalm 58:6. All very Old Testament.
@noctuaminervae I really meant where did he get the idea that Jesus would want this stuff done in his name? When I went to Sunday School, I was told that Jesus said to forget all the old scriptures and replace it with tolerance, forgiveness and turning the other cheek. I'm a Buddhist now, but I was raised by a father who read his bible every day, so I'm fairly well versed in this stuff.
