The local implications of a militarized embassy are worse than they appear. The American embassy in Wellington isn't just a PSYOP node in isolation it's operating inside a framework with direct access to New Zealand's own intelligence infrastructure through Five Eyes. GCSB. SIS. All of it now connected to the same network Rubio just formally militarised.

New Zealand's government has a choice it's been careful to avoid until now. At what point does the Five Eyes relationship become incompatible with New Zealand sovereignty and law?

It's the kind of question I'm sure many other governments are considering.
