This is he second old laptop I got from a 85 year old neighbor. The 32bit Fujitsu PC booted a Debian 12 DVD with no problems and is now the machine I take to classes when it seems like a good idea to try a Slideshow.. But this machine won't book any Debian 12 DVDs, or an OpenSuse Tumbleweed DVD. Maybe the DVD reader is broken? Maybe it's a systemd thing? I just read that some machines have problems booting with systemd so I'll try a antiX DVD next. Unless there's a way to calm the advertising windows is too irritating to serve as a writing deck...

The machine seems conflicted.. It has the HP logo but is a compaq model... With AI (LLM SALAMI) and the attacks on Iran driving up CPU and various component costs, refurbishing old machines and Frugal Computing in general will become more attractive (better know!?!?) for more people...
> prices for electronics are already up 200% to 500%. And they’ll go higher. Memory is near unfindable, and now CPU chips are getting rare.
