I will never understand why Americans are just taking it.

@VeroniqueB99 @marynelson8

Earnest question. What would “not taking it” look like for/to you?

@xankarn @marynelson8

Strike, revolution, take back the country before there's nothing to take back. There's suppose to be 3 more years of this...

@VeroniqueB99 @marynelson8

Speaking only for myself, I would say that calculations are being made by Americans, both individually and collectively, about the current and likely distribution of pain and infringement of democratic rights and what course violence might take if the resistance were to change/escalate its tactics.

We may still see the things you call for here. We also might not, like other societies that found themselves at the mercy of illiberal bad actors.

I’ll add this. In addition to a history of complacency and atomization, the USA is huge (without an obvious political epicenter), and 350 million people makes it challenging to organize /undertake collective action.
8 million people mobilized for No Kings on Saturday. You’re right that’s not enough to constrain or dislodge the MAGA regime, but it’s not nothing either.
@xankarn That actually proves that the 77M who support him are shrinking but still there... that's a big obstacle. Bigger than the size of the country. This wasn't a 'protest' it was a parade. 47 doesn't GAF.🤷‍♀️

@xankarn
I know... but the 'it's too big' argument doesn't work. Many Americans live paycheck-to-paycheck in financial discomfort. If they keep working their regular jobs, they’ll be able to afford a living, but you’re not getting a general strike until true desperation and outrage happen. Massive unemployment, hyperinflation, and possibly martial law has been enacted or when the middle and working classes have missed 2-3 consecutive days of food.

We’re not there yet.

@marynelson8

@VeroniqueB99 @marynelson8

Well put. I think you’ve answered your own question here.

@xankarn oh I'm good at that.... it still drives me nuts though....🤣

@VeroniqueB99 @marynelson8

I say this from a position of immense privilege, but, yes, each day this unfolds is excruciating.

@xankarn ...I don't doubt it...

As @yogthos @NoahLoren13 @Alephwyr @anolandria @bluevelvet321 @tromo and @divinefloraloracle would say, ppl will only revolt when they get nothing to lose, when ppl see change won't come and they lost everything they hold dear.

That's why the West will only get its own Arab Spring, and the US becomes the Syria of the West when ppl lose all hope and see they can't be peaceful anymore...
