Capilano University's 2025 Privacy Impact Assessment for ProctorU concludes "Based on the identified risks within this PIA, it has been decided by the ETLE Committee to stop any further use of ProctorU by the University." https://privacylibrary.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Capilano-University-ProctorU-PIA-2025.pdf

This is one of the most satisfying public records I have ever requested. The tide is turning on remote proctoring in BC.

@Linkletter I hope Athabasca U will stop using them too… when I had to write remote exams, ProctorU was horrid.

I had accessibility accommodations (ex: screen reader, speech to text) for my exams, and their proctors would verbally interrupt me during exams when I was using the tools… even though the same proctor had just agreed in writing in the chat that I was allowed to use them.

The interruptions felt invasive and discriminatory. TLDR: They’re terrible.

@britt I requested Athabasca's ProctorU Privacy Impact Assessment as part of a larger request and they wanted to charge me $513. Most post-secondaries have not done any proctoring PIAs at all.
@Linkletter yikes, that’s unreal. Appreciate you doing what you do.
