Hmm. I expect #drama.

A #fedi #influencer and important #dev made some stupid statements. They are factually incorrect, as well as childishly rude and insensitive.

The #fediverse cannot address the latter phrase.

The former, we can. We can educate each other about #COVID.

1. The world is still experiencing a #pandemic; the emergent phase ended in 2023.
2. Between 19.1 & 35 million people have died of COVID to 12 Mar.
3. Effects of surviving the disease appear to be cumulative.

To expand that last point: if you get COVID and survive, you are LIKELY to have at least some measurable permanent changes to your body - such as reduced immune response.

If you survive COVID a second time, the changes LIKELY are measurably greater, e.g. immune response is even lower.

COVID *appears* to progressively reduce survivor's abilities.

4. Morbidity rates for COVID are very high, even in regions with good health care. In the UK 3,404:1M, in the USA 3,618:1M.
5. At least 10-30% of survivors develop symptoms which last more than 3 months after recovery; over 50% of those who required hospitalization. In studies of victims after 4 weeks approximately ⅓ have findings of pulmonary fibrosis.

Due to COVID, wearing a #mask is far more important to avoiding becoming disabled than putting on your seat belt.

And you do that.
