yeah that’s great, however, when I was still in the UK, the only thing remotely close I was informed of was the option to join the British Computer Society, as part of graduation. I was never made aware of anything similar, let alone a union for programmers, and “general unions” have never made any kind of outreach to computer programmers.
And I was not someone who was constantly shut in, I went to various left aligned protests, I went to job fairs, I went to a hacker club, the union presence there or the union outreach to programmers there was zero.
This leads to people working in modern professions not regarding unions as an organisation that is there for them, and just seems like a closed door blue collar worker’s club.
The Prospect union represents engineers, scientists, managers and civil servants. That includes software engineers and programmers, as well as software people in more senior posts.
