the Suez comparison holds in the overextension dimension: acting beyond your means in a region that pushes back. where it breaks is that Suez had a substitute — ships rerouted round the Cape. Hormuz has no functional substitute for Gulf LNG. the structural damage from Hormuz is orders of magnitude larger.
