Is it DRM-free? I don't see anything about the format in the listing at bookshop.org, other than the uninformative label "ebook."
@glc https://bookshop.org/info/ebooks#EBOOKFAQ the FAQ doesn't really clear it up either. Some ebooks are DRM-free, if the publisher offers it. No information about how to identify which books are distributed that way âšī¸
@cargot_robbie @glc @TheWarOnCars I looked around at other titles, and ones which are DRM-free have a prominent DRM-Free badge on their page.
See for example: https://bookshop.org/p/books/wolf-worm-t-kingfisher/02d097c3b2df2d65?ean=9781250829832&next=t
So it looks like this one is not DRM-Free. Which means I'm not going to buy it. Bummer, as otherwise it would be an easy impulse purchase.
I've heard something about the book previously and from what I've heard it's very well worth reading.
And also worth recommending to a library, the sort of book one would like to see get some reach.
But I'll skip this "buy but not own" option as well.
I bought it from Bookshop.org (yay!). I also have it reserved at the library, but I'm #46 on the list... :-|
When I click the 3-dot menu below the book, there is no Download option.
If it were DRM, I think it would be there (websearch "bookshop.org drm free download")
...so if purchased at Bookshop, it can *only* be read in the Bookshop.org app or web (or maybe Kobo e-ink reader later this year).
If there's no download option, then you don't own it, you're leasing it and not even being given a choice of reader.
That's horrible. I tend to think it can't be quite that bad, and there's probably a download option.
Anyway if that doesn't bother you you'll probably find the book itself rewarding. You can let us know.
