I believe the article is talking about audio compression, which removes dynamics and what drives the volume war, not file compression.

hmmm i suppose that could be what the article means! the way i interpreted it was that lossy audio formats, which compression the files by removings the inaudible parts of the audiofiles, that is causing the damage, but i may be reading it wrong honestly:P

@automattack is correct, the article is definitely about audio compression (the loudness wars, how music is mastered) not file compression (mp3s)

ah i see! I probably just misread it and got paranoid :P but does each file format do audio compression or is that a completely separate thing that is done in mastering?

Rock radio is usually compressed as fuck and volume boosted. Even the quiet patters of songs are loud. My ears can’t take it for long.
