Trying to use #MicrosoftOffice on Windows recently after many years on macOS was frustrating.

I still know a few of the classic Word menu-based #shortcuts like alt-F-V for file print preview, and alt-E for the edit menu etc. I was one of the holdouts who kept the underlining in the menus ('KeyTips') when they became hidden by default. But with the 'new' ribbons, the older menus are gone (unless on macOS).

However, their shortcuts live on - there must be a nice list somewhere, maybe via archive.org? Help!

"In newer versions of Office, most of the old Alt key menu shortcuts still work, too. However, you need to know the full shortcut. For example, press Alt, and then press one of the old menu keys E (Edit), V (View), I (Insert), and so on. A notification pops up saying you're using an access key from an earlier version. If you know the entire key sequence, you can still use it."

Keyboard shortcuts in Word - Microsoft Support

Use your keyboard to navigate your document, ribbon, or menus, and also select, format, and edit text and graphics in your documents.

The (oldest captured) 2020 archive of that #MicrosoftOffice page says:

"In Office 2013 and Office 2010, most of the old Alt key menu shortcuts still work, too. However, you need to know the full shortcut. For example, press Alt, and then press one of the old menu keys E (Edit), V (View), I (Insert), and so on. A notification pops up saying you're using an access key from an earlier version of Microsoft Office. If you know the entire key sequence, go ahead and use it."

Wow - there were/are companies selling plugins for #MicrosoftOffice to show the classic menus for Office 2010 to 2024 aka 365. Half tempting, except I doubt I would be able to install it on a locked done work Windows machine.

This might work (a free resource using the Ribbon customisation to recreate the Word 2003 UI tab): https://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/ribbon_menu_control.html 'Download, unzip and store in your Word Startup Folder'?
