While migrating from iPhone to my new Fairphone with murena the only app that is giving me grief is … WhatsApp. Note that Signal was a breeze: make a secure backup on one device, restore it on the new device, done. A host of other apps, including all passwords, 2fa tokens, could also be migrated easily.

With WhatsApp, initially I got to where you scan a QR code displayed on the old device to connect via wifi. This failed. Then, you can only receive an authentication sms once every 7 hours. If the code does not arrive, which happened twice now, you can wait, or have them call you with the code. The call aborted with a robot voice telling me an application error occurred. Still in limbo for my message history, let alone a successful migration.

@menno doing the same transition at the moment. Trying if the e/OS path works well enough.

Guess I"ll just skip WhatsApp and avoid the drama.

On Signal there is one annoying aspect though: It does not like to be used on two phones at the same time.

@johbo for me the transition was - apart from WA - smooth. All apps that I want to keep using work. The OS blocks all trackers and keeps a list of apps whose tracking was blocked. It feels like a 100% replacement for my iPhone. I tried android before, long time ago, and quickly went back to the walled Apple garden. This time around, it’s a totally different experience.
