"I don’t like a lot of the new Trek. He (Kurtzman), as a person, is a really nice guy. But at the same time, those shows are shit. He is a nice guy. But they didn’t accept my pitch so, you know, fuck ’em.”

It's amazing how much we've all learned in the past day what a right-wing POS Andy Weir is. I was planning on seeing Project Hail Mary, but there's no way Weir is ever getting my money again.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Author Andy Weir Says Paramount Rejected His ‘Star Trek’ Pitch: Their “Shows Are Sh**”

The author of the blockbuster film says Paramount turned down his 'Star Trek' idea and suggested that modern 'Trek' shows have lost their way.

@punkonbuslives he sounds like a real petty dickhead there. Also, talking to the Critical Drinker? Yikes.
@punkonbuslives So, I've been watching other conversations about him, but to also know that he's shittin' on Trek like that because he's butthurt? lol, fucking dipshit. I hope he constantly steps on legos the remainder of his small and shitty life.
@deathkitten
Ya, fuck him. Just another middle-aged white guy showing his true colors.
@punkonbuslives I've been watching the replies to this toot for recs for other great scifi books. Already put in one hold at the library, and will probably need to comb through for others to add to my wishlist for me to dig through later when I'm looking for my next read. Very encouraged because I've seen my favorite recent discovery, the Imperial Radch books by Ann Leckie pop up multiple times, so clearly these are people with good taste.

🤔Now I need to buy two IMAX tickets worth of sci-fi books written by authors that aren't anti-woke, just to put my part of the universe back in balance. 🤔Actually to properly balance things out, I have to keep reading new sci-fi books until I find one that I can recommend to thousands of people.

It's really too bad that he's been revealed to be a petty little shit, because I enjoyed the Martian and was looking forward to seeing PHM. Oh well. Anyone that makes a blanket statement that all of modern Trek is shit (except for SNW and LDS) is persona non grata to me.

@punkonbuslives I enjoyed The Martian as well. Both the book and the film. Before I left Audible I had a lot of credits to spend and I bought his two other books. I haven't listened to them yet - and I probably never will now. It was nice while it lasted, but I have better things to do with my time.

Like maybe finally re-read Ancillary Justice and then read the other books in that series.

@deathkitten
@deathkitten @punkonbuslives @theresmiling some great ones mentioned in that thread, and others i plan to check out too. very good thread
@picard @punkonbuslives @theresmiling The one silver lining when a whiny man childs shows us who he is like this is that we end up sharing the people who do the same thing they did, except better.
@deathkitten @theresmiling @punkonbuslives yes exactly how i try to look at it. sometimes people say things like separate the art from the artist. but why bother when there is just SO MUCH amazing stuff by people who actually care about the people in our world and making it better for everybody. when we promote the people doing that we contribute to making the world a little better too i think.
@picard @theresmiling @punkonbuslives There is literally so much good shit being made all the time. Why waste time on shit made by hateful people?

Like, even just the recs in the thread I linked are more than I could possibly hope to have time to read.
@deathkitten @theresmiling @punkonbuslives right?! it's impossible to read everything anyway, so why would we ever want to promote hateful people and give them money, it just makes no sense to me.
@picard @theresmiling @punkonbuslives It's even more confusing to me when they're not just talking hateful stuff, but it's someone like JK Rowling, who has literally been giving not a small amount of her money to causes that are literally trying to destroy people.

Hateful words cause enough harm, but throwing money behind those hateful words only compounds it.
@punkonbuslives Oh, good to know, taking that book off my tbr. What exactly is it we all learned the past day? I'm not familiar with the new Star Trek stuff and those names. There is more, right?
@snoopy_jay
He went on the Critical Drinker podcast and made an ass of himself. Also, someone found an interview he did in 2017 where he said that he doesn't care about any social messages Star Trek may have. He only wants to see Romulans and the Federation shooting at each other.
@snoopy_jay oh wie schön es gibt tatsächlich stimmen die hail mary nicht komplett feiern:3

@punkonbuslives I read his book The Hail Mary Project and thought it was a decent yarn for a book aimed at a teenage audience. Now I'm starting to think the man may actually have the mental maturity of your average teenager [FlopsyTheBunny] "I hate you!!!" [/FlopsyTheBunny]

*I just realised that the reference to a teenage angst ridden bunny from a now defunct Irish pirate radio station may not mean a lot to most if not all readers of this toot
