@Rainmaker1973 the occupancy rate on the shinkansen between tokyo <-> osaka is currently around 53%. they are trying to repurpose carriages to carry freight.

Many often miss that the top reason to build HSR in most places is capacity, not speed.
I.e. that sounds like there's not really enough reason to build the Chuo shinkansen anymore? And with Japan on a population decline since several years, feels like what is built already will suffice there?
