Holy shit. The NDP voted out their establishment/continuity slate of officers. The delegates voted for the new progressive slate of candidates, signalling the evolution of the party back towards its socialist roots.

"There is an establishment slate and a progressive left slate which has Niall (president), Libby Davies (VP) and Keira Gunn (Treasurer)"

Massive upset in the officer leadership at #ndp2026 -- the "continuity" slate was defeated by a last-minute slate that included Libby Davies. Only people in the room are allowed to vote on this and so it not only seals the Lewis victory, but it also shows that support goes deep.

@mayintoronto

Oh hells yes. Having an actual progressive party in Canadian politics is going to be amazing. Certainly better than Carney's '1980s Tory' bullshit, and far better than the recent NDP's wishy-washy refusal to engage with progressive concepts like those pesky human rights.

(I wish that the Green party had more sway, though. I'm pretty sure we all wish the Green party had more sway.)

@theogrin @mayintoronto the new Green leader in BC is fantastic, Emily Lowan
@TheresaReason Big fan of the provincial Greens!!! Federal greens not so much. @theogrin
@mayintoronto On that note, it was good to know that Ontario Green Party leader, Mike Schreiner, was out making the rounds at the Fight Ford protest in Guelph today.😁

@CAWguy @mayintoronto

Mike Schreiner has voted with Conservatives in the past for back-to-work legislation, effectively ending workers' right to strike in such instances.

@markgrieveson @CAWguy I feel like enough has changed about the party around him that he might vote differently now, 7 years later.
