I was seriously considering getting one of those new e-book readers like the Xteink X4 for about £45 on AliExpress. But my old Kindle 4th Gen is still going strong. It does take forever to charge. But because there's no backlight, the battery lasts for days and days. These things are £15 on eBay now. I might get a couple of spares as backups at that price. The only downsides are no USB-C and the need to convert epub to mobi, but honestly this old tech works just fine.
