Night sky 10 years ago: “look, a shooting star!”

Night sky tonight: “look more Starlink junk burning up and rapidly seeding aluminium into our upper atmosphere with unknown consequences.”

@allancavanagh I wonder if we'll be able to see the aftermath of the Kessler event with the naked eye when it happens
@staringatclouds I suppose we’ll know soon enough.
@allancavanagh @sundogplanets This is a night sky picture at Death Valley two months ago. At least streaks (some are faint)…  I assume that they're Starlink satellites (3 secs, f/1.8, ISO 2800, 50 mm)
#astrophotography
@SteveBellovin Five streaks though 😭
@cafuego Hmm—I took a closer look and now see four, but I still don't see five…
@SteveBellovin And fair enough too, there are six.
@cafuego Amazing—you have better eyes than I do! Six (at least)!
And I'll edit my post…
@allancavanagh yeah but think of all the shareholder value that was generated
@pl environmental collapse is an opportunity for growth!
@allancavanagh "hopefully this pollution will somehow offset the other pollution"
@mrj Musk knows he'll never get to Mars so he's going to turn Earth into Mars instead.
