But she “never expected that science itself would come under attack, simply because it—like journalism, history, and even the best kind of art—is a way of seeking the truth. I’m leaving because I want to tell the truth.”

This is what happens when you elect a leader who gives the Religious Right what they want. When you’ve got a large segment of your population who is culturally delusional and can’t deal with reality, and you give them political power, they destroy your civilization in order to preserve their backwards, primitive way of life. These people are the bane of every society. They prey upon people’s distress and fears, and sell them snake oil and prayers in exchange for tearing down the only real hope you had.
