Tim MillsWikipedia notes six species that have had this name, but asserts that the only "legitimate" one is for the species now known as "Allium schoenoprasum", so that's what I'll go with. (It looks close enough, to my non-botanist eyes.)

I have both seen these growing, in the garden on the farm, as well as in my own household, where living things are normally nurtured by my spouse and our son.
I like the "Allium" - the genus name that covers a variety of related edible plants including onion, garlic, scallions, shallots, leeks, and chives (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allium).
In addition to being not a botanist, I also have very limited culinary skills, so I can sometimes be caught substituting one allium for another in a recipe, usually to the detriment of the entire household.
