When was the last time that you stayed in a place for a week or more, and the only internet for you laptop was your own mobile connection on your phone that you then used as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and that mobile service did not have unlimited GB but a fixed amount that you can run out of?

@simevidas I usually don't have my laptop with me when traveling. But I would probably use up my 60 GB/a very fast when providing a hotspot for my laptop. NixOS downloads a lot!
@jak2k Every OS should have a “data saver” mode or “reduce data” preference. And that preference should then be detectable in CSS.

@simevidas Yes, that wouldn't help much in this case though because I need to download all that stuff to update my OS.

I think Android has this feature, right? But nobody uses that value or setting.

@jak2k Yes, there is Data Saver mode. Looks like if you turn it on, the Wi-Fi hotspot feature is disabled, which I think it wrong. The user should be able to use the device as a Wi-Fi hotspot while at the same time reducing data usage for the apps on that phone. One does not have anything to do with the other.
@jak2k iOS has a “Low Data” mode, but it seems to turn off iCloud sync, so I’m not sure if I want to turn it on. I wish this mode could be tweaked by the user in more detail.
