I was today years old when I found out LinkedIn has a chronological timeline mode*, and why LinkedIn recommends against enabling it in the settings. Because once you do, you’ll see that people aren’t talking about AI, agents and LLMs anywhere near as much as LinkedIn would have you think. My feed just went from ~90% AI hype to one with only the occasional post on the topic. Almost as if one of the companies most invested in the bubble would use a platform they own to inflate it.

(Could be that it’s an EU-only thing? I remember hearing about an EU requirement like this in the past. If so, I’m sorry if it’s not available to you. The free market will sort it out, I’m sure.)

@anderseknert Oh, thank you so much for this! I wasn’t aware and wished there was some such thing. Turns out I just needed to look harder! Available in Canada too.
@chendricks yeah, this is wild! LinkedIn *almost* looks like a normal platform now. Someone told me they tend to “accidentally” forget your preference for this setting, so better check in on it every now and then. Or I guess the feed going back to eternal AI hype will be enough to tell.
@anderseknert I read LI much less than fedi and only because some people I want to connect with are only there. This should make it a bit more tolerable when I’m over there. Good to note that sometimes it may revert and needs rechecking!
@chendricks yeah it’s about 50/50 for me but that’s only because I use LI for work related things. Even with a non-algorithmic timeline it’ll of course never come close to anything like Fedi… but given the amount of time I spend there, this is a huge improvement.
