Broken internal component meant the sofa needed repair yesterday. Previously we'd just cut a flap and stuck the weird plastic cloth back with sellotape. After getting the eldest to move and tip the sofa, I decided I'd just cut that whole thing off. Out came the knife.
Half way through and eldest goes "this feels really destructive"

Yes it does, kid, yes it does 😈

Reminds me of the time a friend asked me to collect a sofa for them. They had bought it on Ebay really cheaply, new from a sofa manufacturer.

When I arrived to collect, the chaps said "You do know what it is, don't cha?"

"Ummm... A sofa, I'm just the delivery driver."

They told me the sofa was just a mock up for a new production run, and couldn't be sat on.
It turned out to have a lightweight stick frame, and only cosmetic upholstery.

The friend wanted me to 'reinforce it' enough to use.
I wedged a load of fire wood under the seating area and pushed it back against a wall. There was nothing else I could do.

Hey, if it works!
I've been thinking of reinforcing this one with L bar steel along the main joints - is a lovely big sofa (4 seater) but can't quite cope with four adults!

@wokstation
Ahhh, frustrating when you only had two adults when you bought it! 😄

The steel angle should add strength, additional timber, glued and screwed on edge, would too.

Sometimes you just have to add what you can.
