Went to see the movie "Niñxs" last night at a cafe; an early celebration of Trans Day of Visibility, it was followed by trans-colored ice-cream and a discussion of the movie. It's kind of a documentary of growing up trans. There was Mollie and I, and four college age folks in the audience. One trans, one trans/nonbinary, and two women.

It was a sobering reminder that there is a big difference between being able to carry on, or at least understand, a light conversation with a Mexican as a gringo, and being able to understand people discussing their feelings about a movie. Never mind understanding a movie that primarily consists of two teens talking to each other and to parents.
