Yeah so Pixelfed added a feature called Loops back in 2019 as a Vine type service

The feature was basically just a grid of videos, and a few months later, I removed it because it wasn't used much.

But it was always in the back of my mind, and a few years later I saw GoldFish and Vidzy.

Then in 2024 I started teasing an independent service called Loops, and we had thousands of signups before it was even live.

So I built the mvp and app.

Ppl complained it wasn't open sourced.

Then I shipped✨

Now there are 40k+ Loopers across dozens of servers!

#Loops

Loops - Short videos. Your community. Your rules.

All the fun of short-form video, none of the corporate control. Loops is federated, open-source, and designed to give power back to creators and communities.

Good call on making Loops and Pixelfed different apps - totally different market. Some small videos on Pixelfed is ok for short recordings of animals and such for photographers, but loops is the other way around. Primary focus on short form videos and scrolling interesting content from your own curated feed.
