@amandaianthe It says to delete and leave everything but Meta products, and those we only deactivate even though they are by far the worst offenders?
Also, recommending Brave is a confusing choice for antifacists given the founder of Brave, Brendan Eich was fired from Mozilla for unapologetically funding legislation to ban gay marriage, and supported publicly by his friend Donald Trump.
@lrvick i hear you. And agree overall.
The idea with this campaign was less about being 100% perfect and more about targeting the worst offenders. Meta Google OpenAI Amazon Apple X. And walking a balance to make things accessible to people that may be less tech savvy.
For those who need super secure comms then, some of the options on the flyer wouldn’t work.
I have this other table where I rank them a bit more. Curious your thoughts on this one. Any edits?
@amandaianthe Thanks for sharing.
With the exceptions of Firefox, Bluesky, and Odysee all the other software recommendations under "easier moves" undermine user freedom and privacy IMO.
In general all centralized or proprietary software is positioned to abuse users now or in the future and there are always plenty of alternatives.
On the "independent" side:
Brave -> Firefox
Mistral/GreenPT -> oLMO+crush
Patreon -> Liberapay
Kagi -> mwmbl
Also typo: Mastadon -> Mastodon
