Interesting, in an attempt to liberate the (largely Russian-controlled) ONLYOFFICE code base, a group of European companies has created a fork that is called "Euro-Office" (via @fabricemous):

@bitsgalore Will be interesting to see how that plays out, because apparently OnlyOffice is abusing the AGPL to prevent forking without their permission... https://isitreallyfoss.com/projects/onlyoffice/
OnlyOffice: Is it really foss?

@bitsgalore They seem to be confident that these additional terms are not permitted by the AGPL (contrary to what OnlyOffice claims) and so simply removed them:

@dgelessus Interesting!

Legal issues aside I have some mixed feelings about this initiative.

From what I've read, ONLYOFFICE has better compatibility with the Microsoft Office formats than LibreOffice, which could make it an appealing short-term solution for many organizations.

But for the long run, I do wonder if the money/effort required by this initiative wouldn't be spent more effectively by supporting and strengthening the LibreOffice ecosystem.

ONLYOFFICE flags license violations in “Euro-Office” project

The “Euro-Office” initiative is an evident and material violation of ONLYOFFICE licensing terms and principles of international intellectual property law.
