So, one of the funny things about
#TheAmazingDigitalCircus is the running gag where Caine occasionally bluescreens.
If you look closely, he's actually giving real Windows bugcheck codes.
Let's put on our IT hats and try to diagnose what's wrong with his operating system.
So in this first scene from the Pilot, where he says the circus tent is home to "All sorts of other activities. These activities may include..." then he throws a BSOD.
The actual stop code here is 0x00000050, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
This system error occurs when Windows tries to access system memory at an invalid location — basically, the operating system is looking for files in a RAM location it's not supposed to be in.
Clearly Caine's got some sort of system corruption here.
Now let's take a look at the BSOD in Episode 7, after Jax asks him about his hobbies and tells him the humans care about him.
He gets very emotional, then throws off stop code 0x000000ED, UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.
This is a more serious error. You don't usually see it happen when Windows is already running. It tends to occur at startup, when the computer has a bad hard drive, and prevent the computer from booting at all.
This is a "you may have to get a new computer" kind of error.
It's harder to interpret what it means in the lore of the show, but I guess it means, Caine is trying to boot up human emotions, and that's not something he's physically capable of doing?
Anyway, it's the little, incredibly nerdy details like this that make this show so cool.
