Went to a webinar on the new Braille Sense 7 today. They are basically taking every feature i have ever disliked in braille displays past and putting them in this unit. Touch sensitive braille line? Check! Lack of cursor routing buttons? Check... The fucking wiz wheel or whatever HIMS is calling it these days? Also check. I'm not trying to yuck anybody's yum here. If you are excited about this, I'm excited for you, that's awesome I hope people enjoy it. I'll be plugging along with my Braille Sense VI with its cursor routing buttons, lack of touch sensitive controls and wiz wheels until it dies a noble death.... I don't need to be spending that kind of money anyway, HIMS is just making it a lot easier and I do appreciate that.
@pawpower I have an Optelec Voyager, 44 Zyl unit, that I run with my MacBook. Old as hell, but those things just don't break. I also have a braille edge 40, for when I need to go somewhere. No offense ment, but no takers are extraordinarily limited in what they can actually do. Why pay $7000, if a MacBook and a display will do it.
@brandtsteenkamp I don't I actually bought mine secondhand on eBay for less than 2000 and I pay that much because I don't have an area where I can set up a laptop and a braille display. I work in the field on very tiny school desks, in coffee shops on very small tables, in outdoor cafés where the workspace is very limited so it is absolutely better for my use case to use a small note taker alongside my braille display that I use with my iPhone. Every used case is going to be different and people have individual needs and situations.
@pawpower Totally fair, as I said, not for me though.
@brandtsteenkamp Have been tossing around the idea of getting another Mac but I need to get a new watch before I do anything as mine is 4 and the battery is starting to wimp out.
@pawpower I don’t even own a watch anymore, although they are great. I like to be as efficient with my devices as I can, my phone or my Mac can both tell me the time. My M4 Air is great, and I need the power, but for most, the Neo would be perfectly fine.
