🤦🏿‍♂️Actually, nevermind.

Why is everything like this?

The author supposedly went on an anti-woke, right-wing podcast to promote the movie while trashing other books and movies that do have a "woke" message or that have inclusive representation? But... why?

Why was that necessary?

@mekkaokereke

😭 Thanks for the heads up.

I really really like the #ProjectHailMary book. I like how it creates suspense without resorting to conflict. How it keeps pulling the rug from under you. The message.

I've been on the fence to watch the movie due to the spoilery trailer.

And now this.

Finding out the creators of your favourite things to be jerks sucks.

@mekkaokereke

From looking a bit more into it, but without giving any clicks to the Critical Drinker, it seems like Andy Weir promoted his book/movie on a right wing podcast, and credited its success in part on being apolitical.

Not happy about it, and I think that's a rather cowardly/opportunistic stance.

But as far as creators' shitty actions or shitty attitudes go, this seems a rather mild one. Might also be me being numb by now.

@billiglarper

I'm not going to disagree with your opinion, but I will ask you to watch some critical drinker episodes, and to watch the specific part of this episode yourself to see what Weir said he was agreeing with, before saying that it's not that bad.

Because "All he said is that his stories are apolitical!" is not a good faith framing of critical drinker's worldview or the impact it has on marginalized people. It's similar to "All DOGE said, is that government spending shouldn't be wasteful!" And "All ICE said, is that our borders should be secure!" And "All Hegseth said, is that military standards should be held high!" And "All the SAVE act says, is that we should make sure that only citizens should be able to vote!"

Etc.

@mekkaokereke

Oh, we probably agree on Critical Drinker. I haven't heard of him before, but he seems to be a proper rightwing douchebag, no doubt about it.

And I think it's a shitty move by Andy Weir to go on his show. (Though it's probably something his agent picked.)

And it's a fair point to ask to watch the talk for myself before judging. But I'm currently visiting family and won't use my limited time on this right now. From a quick search, the right didn't get any juicy quotes.

@billiglarper @mekkaokereke i mean how critical can a guy be who makes his drinking habbit into a nickname for his channel.

I had like 2 min exposure to his content and regretted IT immediately.
