need WALLOPS? no problem

what’s that, this server only has not-quite-WALLOPS? (& this other one, but not the rest?)

that’s fine, let’s get that sorted neatly

so, how do other clients sort it? in the server buffer? alright that makes sense, it’s WALLOPS-esque. oh, wait, this one puts it in the server buffer *and* as a query? hm, & that one just treats it as a query

well, it’s clearly marked as not-quite-WALLOPS at least, so whatever we choose it’s for this specific scenario! right? …right?

🙃

@andymandias Sorry, I feel a bit responsible for sending you down this rabbit hole. This sounds pretty annoying to decide what to do. :/

@esden not at all! I was bound to fall down this rabbit hole one day or the other

and imho/ime a variety of methods without great mechanisms to clarify which ones are being used is all too common in IRC dev (and part of the reason we have so many settings in Halloy)

I only hope it feels a little bit more legible/cohesive for users
