Every once in a while I'll see someone respond to "why don't more Americans fight back harder?" with some version of "but our police are so big and scary" as if we haven't seen protesters all over the world get shot. Police here kill way more people in basic day to day interactions than they do at protests. This isn't to minimize the loss of life that happens, but anyone with a gun can kill you, regardless of where you are in the world. The U.S. police force is large, yes, and they are more militarized than some places. But they're not special. A cop is a cop no matter where you are.
@abolitionbb Also, they can kill you without a gun, too. This is something I wish more people in "but our cops don't have guns" countries would remember (and anyone else, honestly). Cops aren't safe anywhere.
@whatanerd absolutely, thank you for pointing that out. People do a maddening amount to try to sanitize the violence of policing. Obviously cops not having a gun is preferable! But it doesn't negate how inherently violent they still are without them
