Hmmm... How to handle a "smart tv" stuck on the Google TV logo at startup? Since it has been exactly 6 months, it's obvious it wants to be connected to a network for an update. I refuse - it's not just a software update but a telemetry upload. This also solves it:
1. refer to PDF copy of TV manual
2. look up and do factory reset procedure
3. now it boots fine - re-do picture/audio settings, block content recognition & "smart" stuff
4. repeat every 6 months

@KO6YQ that’s why you should just use them as a HDMI monitor and invest in a mini PC running Linux to run all your streaming services through a web browser.
@justincrozer It is being used only as an HDMI monitor.
@KO6YQ how does it do this BS then? Mine doesn’t I don’t have it connected to the internet at all.
@justincrozer It happened exactly at 6 months, restarting itself into the stuck-on-logo mode. A fairly obvious guess is it's a trap to force a call to support and connection to a network. I didn't take the bait. No network for you! If it won't work without a network connection, factory reset is the workaround.
@KO6YQ ah crafty motherf**** great work. Can’t stand it when tech forces things upon users it should always be a ‘choice’ as if you pay for it you should be able to do what you wish with it.
@justincrozer That was why I thought others may want to know this is one more option to refuse to comply with enshittification.
@justincrozer @KO6YQ
That’s what I did. Works great.
@KO6YQ You can degoogle your smart tv by activating developer options, enabling adb via network, accessing the shell from a pc and using universal android debloater to remove all google stuff, including google play services. This will make your tv software more lightweight and will stop with all the bullshit. As a bonus, you can also install some extra software from adb that google doesn't allow in the play store, like apps to watch YouTube without ads or to stream free media ;)

@perdidonavida I just need it to be an HDMI monitor. Networks all disabled.

Thx for the tip about developer mode though. Other controls to turn off there.

@KO6YQ
Thanks for the tip. Mine is not yet 6 mths old, so it might come in handy.
