yahoo news | ‘Calling… Epstein Island’: Journalists Phoning White House Get Quite the Surpris...
Reporters from The Washington Post’s Style section were dialing the White House switchboard to ask about First Lady Melania Trump’s outfit when, on many Android phones, the caller‑ID label displayed “Epstein Island” — the nickname for Jeffrey Epstein’s Little St. James. The phone number itself was correct; only the name attached to it was wrong, leading the journalists to wonder why the White House was being associated with the convicted pedophile’s Caribbean island.
The glitch was traced to a brief “fake edit” in Google Maps that was pulled into Google’s call‑screening feature. The edit erroneously linked the White House number to the island’s name, affecting Android devices while iPhone callers saw no such label. After the Post reported the problem, Google confirmed the violation of its policy, reversed the change, blocked the responsible user, and by Friday the erroneous label no longer appeared.
The incident comes at a time of renewed scrutiny of former President Donald Trump’s past connections to Epstein, especially after the release of the “Epstein files.” Trump has said he knew Epstein socially before a falling‑out but has always denied any knowledge of the financier’s criminal activities. The story was first published on Mediaite.
