@[email protected] Rather than a "phone call" I prefer to call it "voice call" because you're not actually using the phone line for it, and it sounds less confusing.

It was more stupid during the DSL days, when people would connect to the internet trough an actual phone line (but DSL) and then they would do voice calls trough TS, MSN, SKype, ICQ, whatever. Trough the same line your phone uses. Just DSL. But you didn't have to pay for the duration of the call. Even though you're making a more extensive use of that line.
@enigmatico @brettm phone calls got so cheap that it was free nationally here, but your DSL was still metred until like 2015. then they switched to VDSL and there was no space on the line for a simultaneous phone call anyway, so all the modems became ATAs as well
