We wanted to pick up some beer from Amsterdam and we did it in the most inefficient way possible! Took the tram almost as far as Noord and wandered around the neighbourhood to see if Oedipus had a shop but it doesn’t open till 4pm so we kept walking to get the ferry across to the centre
That was a nice wander through a semi industrial area with lots of what would be trendy bars and restaurants back home that are probably just fun local places. The ferry went straight across and we thought we would walk a bit then take the bus to Centraal
But then I saw this cute bridge over a side canal and we took a photo and crossed it and went down to the other side of the island away from the bus route and there kept being more cute bridges and house boats that had matching garden boats moored next to them and then all the flat cruise boats
And then we crossed a very impressive bridge and somehow it was still a really long way back to the station so my grand plans of buying beer turned into “what do they have in the Albert Hein at the station I can’t walk another step” and OK, it was Oedipus
One last #kubecon photo; this was the coffee beans going into the coffee machines all over the RAI
I’m always on about the level of architectural decoration in Amsterdam, this was in a modern area - and the brick (?fake?) ruin was at a metro station
This display of lights on books was down the side of a workshop on the way to the ferry point
If @[email protected] had taken this shot of crested grebes it would have been much clearer but this is my new meme
The cute bridges that tempted us
House and garden boats
It’s the Las Vegas problem where the station is so big it looks close
After all that walking the train to Brussels was mainly a chance to sit down! The hotel we’re staying in is a converted house; steep, narrow and rather cute. Found a brasserie nearby; croquettes of teeny tiny shrimp and steak frites and beer that turned out to be from Luxembourg!
So; anyone who knows Brussels- what shall we do on a March Saturday?
