the contract faculty union at NYU, of which I am a member, reached a tentative agreement with the university earlier this week (after a two-day strike). i have to say i'm pretty happy with the outcome of the agreement https://nyucontractfacultyunion.org/cfu-uaw-tentative-agreement-highlights/ in conclusion, do a union, you'll be glad you did
(I'm an Arts Professor at the Tisch School of the Arts, and to be honest we already had a pretty good deal with the university, owing to tons of faculty self-advocacy within the school over the past few decades. but the new agreement keeps all of that in place, and I know some of the provisions of this agreement will be literally life changing for contract faculty in other schools)
